Kwizda Agro launches Thermacell® with citrus-scented protection zone
New gas-powered Halo tabletop device with an active ingredient based on eucalyptus citriodora oil — aimed at consumers looking for a mosquito protection solution with a plant-based active ingredient
Vienna, 8 June 2026. With rising temperatures and longer time spent outdoors, the demand for comfortable solutions against mosquitoes is also growing. Kwizda Agro is therefore expanding the Thermacell® range in Austria with the new Citriodora product line. It is aimed at consumers who, for outdoor mosquito protection, prefer a plant-based active ingredient based on eucalyptus citriodora oil. The gas-powered Thermacell® Citriodora Halo tabletop device creates an outdoor Citriodora protection zone of up to 15 square metres against mosquitoes within minutes. The active-ingredient mats give off a subtle citrus scent.
Thermacell® has been established for many years as a solution for outdoor mosquito protection and is distributed in Austria by Kwizda Agro. The new Halo tabletop device adds a further application to the existing range of gas- and battery-powered devices for outdoor living areas. The Citriodora product line is aimed in particular at consumers who prefer a plant-based active ingredient for outdoor mosquito protection solutions. As is usual with Thermacell®, the product works without any spray on the skin and protects several people simultaneously in the immediate vicinity of the device. “Thermacell® is established in Austria across a variety of usage contexts, from the garden and terrace through to camping and outdoor leisure”, says Ronald Hamedl, Managing Director of Kwizda Agro. “With the new Citriodora Halo tabletop device, we are extending our offering with an additional solution that answers the demand for plant-based mosquito protection outdoors.”
Protection zone for terrace, garden and outdoor activities
The new Thermacell® Citriodora Halo tabletop device is cordless, gas-powered and designed for outdoor use. The operating principle of Thermacell® devices is based on vaporising an active ingredient by heating the active-ingredient mat. This evenly disperses the active ingredient through the surroundings, creating a protection zone of up to 15 square metres from the Citriodora product line within minutes. The Citriodora active-ingredient mats give off a subtle citrus scent. The starter set — with three active-ingredient mats lasting four hours each and a gas cartridge with a runtime of up to twelve hours — is particularly well suited to longer outdoor occasions such as a barbecue evening, on the terrace or in the garden. The device works without any spray on the skin, without an open flame and without producing smoke. “From a user perspective, ease of use is the priority with Thermacell®”, explains Alexander Kunkal, Manager Home & Garden Austria at Kwizda Agro. “The new Halo tabletop device is easy to set up and quickly creates a plant-based protection zone against mosquitoes. Devices and refill packs available online and at DIY and garden centres
The new Thermacell® Citriodora range is also available as a refill pack. The refill can also be used in existing gas-powered Thermacell® devices. One refill pack contains gas cartridges and active-ingredient mats for a total of up to 48 hours of use. The new Thermacell® Citriodora range is available, among other places, at many DIY and garden centres as well as online — for example, through the partner shop www.schaedlingfrei.at. With this range extension, Kwizda Agro is strengthening its Home & Garden portfolio and continuing to expand its offering of user-friendly solutions for protected outdoor living areas.
