Girls Discover High-Tech in Crop Protection
23 schoolgirls experienced modern research, digitalization and sustainable solutions at crop protection manufacturer Kwizda Agro during Vienna's Daughters' Day
Vienna/Leobendorf, April 24, 2026. For the third time, Kwizda Agro opened its doors as part of Vienna's Daughters' Day, this year giving 23 schoolgirls an exciting, hands-on look into the world of modern crop protection. The participants enjoyed an eventful day spanning the company's headquarters at the Vienna Saturn Tower and the production facility in Leobendorf, Lower Austria.
At Kwizda Agro's headquarters in the Vienna Saturn Tower, the students kicked off a varied program covering the importance of agriculture and crop protection for global food security. Marking "100 Years of Kwizda Agro," the company also showcased how it bridges tradition and innovation. Fascinating insights into biological crop protection — such as in viticulture — as well as the use of digital tools and modern technologies illustrated how strongly the industry is shaped today by digitalization and sustainable development.
A central element of the day was personal exchange with Kwizda Agro employees from various specialist fields. In conversations with female experts from research, development and other technical disciplines, the students gained authentic insights into career paths, professional challenges and opportunities in STEM fields.
A particular highlight was the hands-on continuation at the Leobendorf facility in Lower Austria: there, participants not only gained insight into sustainable production processes, but also experienced first-hand the growing electrification of logistics — from electric forklifts to electric trucks. In the laboratory, they then got actively involved themselves, conducting experiments that allowed them to directly grasp the scientific foundations of crop protection.
There was also room for creative expression: in a graffiti project, the students gave artistic form to their visions of "the agriculture of the future." The resulting works will subsequently be transformed into wine labels for Kwizda Agro's 100th anniversary commemorative wine.
"Daughters' Day is an important initiative for us to inspire young women early on to pursue careers in science and technology. The combination of hands-on experience, innovation and personal exchange shows just how diverse the career opportunities at Kwizda Agro are," emphasized Ronald Hamedl, Managing Director of Kwizda Agro.
Kwizda Agro is actively committed to nurturing the next generation of talent and aims in particular to inspire girls to pursue STEM careers. The strong uptake and enthusiasm of the participants confirm the success of this approach and underline the relevance of such initiatives for the future of the industry.
